Por qué decimos no al Black Friday

Why we say no to Black Friday

Every time November arrives, the same pattern repeats itself: campaigns everywhere, messages urging you to buy before it’s “too late”, and a pace that speeds up far more than we really need.

At Ecoalf, we prefer to pause before following that current. That is why we say no to Black Friday. This decision comes from staying true to our purpose: creating garments that respect the planet and offering a way of consuming that doesn’t depend on rush or impulse.

7 reasons why we say no to Black Friday

It isn’t a one-off stance. It’s something we reflect on every year, and it has become part of who we are.

1. It speeds up a pace of consumption that the planet cannot sustain

Black Friday encourages buying clothes as if they were disposable. Garments come in and out of the wardrobe in a matter of weeks. This fast pace goes against a fashion model that respects time: designing well, producing only what is necessary with sustainable materials, and creating pieces that last.

2. It increases the amount of clothing that ends up being thrown away

When clothes are bought on impulse, their lifespan is usually very short. Many pieces end up forgotten at the back of the wardrobe. And most are made from materials that take decades to decompose. This is why we need a different way of consuming.

3. It fuels fast fashion and mass production

To fill stores with discounts, many brands speed up processes, lower material quality, and manufacture huge quantities. All of this increases emissions, waste, and environmental impact. We prefer a different pace: producing only what is necessary and using recycled materials to avoid extracting new resources.

4. It increases pressure on the people who make the clothes

When the priority is to produce faster and cheaper, the people behind every garment are the ones who feel it the most. Intense working days, impossible deadlines, and conditions that are not always fair. A fashion model that cares for the planet must also care for those who make it possible.

5. It creates a “false saving”

A heavily discounted garment may seem like a great opportunity, but if it loses its shape quickly or was not designed to last, the real cost is the environmental impact and the need to buy again. Choosing fewer, better garments is ultimately the most sustainable choice for your wallet and for the planet.

6. It disconnects us from the origin and real value of each garment

When consumption accelerates, we stop paying attention to what makes a garment valuable: its origin, its materials, and the hands that create it. When everything becomes about price and immediacy, fashion loses part of its meaning.

7. It moves us away from the responsible fashion model we need

Haste, impulse, and aggressive discounts don’t align with a fashion model that wants to care for the planet and people. A sustainable industry needs a slower pace, responsible materials, and garments designed to last for years.

This is why at Ecoalf we say no to Black Friday, choosing a circular fashion model that looks far ahead, for people and for the planet.

What do we propose at Ecoalf?

Rather than joining campaigns that last just a few hours and fuel fast fashion, we prefer to focus on sustainable clothing that cares for both people and the planet.

Producing only what is necessary

We create thoughtful collections without overproduction and using recycled and low-impact materials. Each garment has a reason to exist.

Keeping prices consistent

We don’t work with sudden price drops or increases. We make an effort to keep prices fair for both the buyer and the maker of the garment.

Designing clothes that last

A jacket made from recycled plastic, sustainable sneakers with soles made from recycled rubber, or a backpack created from recovered fishing nets are not quick purchases. They’re pieces designed to last and to respect the environment.

How can you say no to Black Friday?

It’s not about avoiding buying altogether, but taking a different approach.

  • Choose brands that work transparently. It’s easier to choose well when you know the story behind what you wear.

  • Ask yourself simple questions before buying. Will I wear it? How is it made? Does it add something to my wardrobe? Sometimes that is enough.

  • Choose garments that last. When you buy something designed to last for years, you are supporting an ethical and responsible fashion model.

Moving toward a more responsible way of consuming

Black Friday reflects a system that pushes us to consume without limits. At Ecoalf, we believe it’s time to move toward calmer, more honest decisions that align with the future we want to build. This is why we say no to Black Friday. And we do it with the conviction that every gesture matters. In the end, it’s about choosing less but choosing better.
