ECOALF 1.0 FALL WINTER 2022
This is the first season we have used our signature Ocean Yarn knit to create garments. Our Ocean Yarn is spun with recycled plastic bottles collected from the bottom of the ocean through Ecoalf Foundation’s Upcycling the Oceans project which unites more than 4,000 fishermen across the Mediterranean Sea.
Since the project began in 2015, we have removed over 1,000 tonnes of waste from the bottom of the ocean. Each item not only gives a second life to waste, but it also represents even more waste that is no longer there, helping to raise awareness across the globe.
A STEP TOWARDS CIRCULARITY
Achieving circularity is a complex process and goes much further than simply using recycled materials, what’s key is using recycled materials to make items that are 100% recyclable and will be recycled again. Typically, for technical coats with 10K waterproof 5k breathability properties, you need three-layer fabrics: an exterior, an interior, and a membrane between the two that prevents water from entering and allows moisture and heat to exit. Unfortunately, this membrane is typically made from polyurethane, so when it is merged with the two other layers, it makes it nearly impossible to recycle the garment.
This season we present an innovative carbon-neutral, sustainable membrane integrated into 100% recycled polyester fabrics. In addition to providing 20K waterproof and 10K breathability properties, the mono-materiality of the three layers makes the fabric 100% recyclableat the end of its life cycle to promote the circular economy.
The men’s Banquisa and Sympa coats and women’s Tixi coat are also made with a with a recycled synthetic filling. This sustainable solution for down offers the perfect balance of down-like warmth, loft, and aesthetics. The unique synthetic structure mimics the softness and fluidity of down to deliver breathable, lightweight warmth y 100% vegan.
