LANA TRANSHUMANCIA

It all begins with local herders fostering the ancient and rich process of transhumance, moving sheep from one pasture to another following the different seasons. Ecoalf 1.0 brings this forgotten Spanish heritage to life through a collaboration with Made in Slow, a project born to preserve and restore the tradition of handcrafted and 100% transhumance merino wool.

Spain has the oldest tradition dating back to ancient times, and it is where the origin of merino wool began. Unfortunately, the tradition began to decline and has nearly disappeared altogether due to industrialization and urbanization. Returning to the unique process not only reduces industrial processes, it helps to preserve biodiversity.

In small villages 20-50km outside of Leon the artisans gather together to confect the pieces restoring depopulated and rural areas where the tradition has faded, one that has As a process and story that needs to be shared, each item will have a QR label that can trace which heard the wool has come from and in which village the garment was knitted.
