Tanning leather for sneakers is a process that uses about 250 chemicals including toxins and heavy metals. The process used to make Piñatex® limits water consumption and production waste and does not involve any harmful chemicals or animal products. By repurposing agricultural waste into natural textiles, new jobs are created in rural areas while providing a second source of income for pineapple farmers.
