Ecoalf Valencia Store

A STORE INSPIRED BY THE MEDITERRANEAN

Inspired by the sea, its fishing communities, and the ocean floor they help protect, Ecoalf's latest store transforms architecture into an invitation to experience the Mediterranean. Located on Calle del Sorní, 1 the 165 square meter store celebrates the ocean and communities that have shaped Ecoalf's mission from the very beginning.

THE MEDITERRANEAN IS MORE THAN AN INSPIRATION FOR THIS SPACE. IT IS WHERE ECOALF'S STORY BEGAN.

Through the Ecoalf Foundation's Upcycling the Oceans initiative, local fishermen across +80 ports in Spain, France, Greece, Italy and Egypt have spent over a decade recovering waste from the bottom of the ocean. Of the  80, 15 ports are based in the community of Valencia. Together they have removed 2.1 million kilos of waste polluting our oceans. For this reason, the Valencia store features a dedicated space honoring the fishermen that participate in the project.

“Opening in Valencia is particularly exciting for us because this is precisely where Upcycling the Oceans was born in 2015! The Valencian Community is part of our history and of the way we understand and connect with the Mediterranean. We have a responsibility towards the sea, and with this store, we want to bring people closer to the incredible work that fishermen carry out every day, removing waste from the seabed and preventing it from returning to pollute our oceans.”

- Javier Goyeneche, Founder and President of Ecoalf.

The store features the Breeze Chair by Valencian artist and designer Jordi Iranzo, Co-Founder and Creative Director of Clap Studio.

He works with the netting using epoxy resin, shaping each piece entirely by hand through the creation of a mould, the cold manipulation of the mesh, and a process of trial and error until he finds the exact formula that gives the net the necessary rigidity without losing its sense of lightness and transparency.

“What the nets gave us was precisely that transparency, permeability and delicacy needed to create works of art that could also be functional. The Breeze Chair conveys the movement of the waves and the wind, as well as its connection with Ecoalf’s project. This collaboration reinforces the idea of giving these materials a second life and transforming them into something completely different.”
- Jordi Iranzo, designer and creator of the Breeze Chair.
