GLOBAL BLACK FRIDAY SALES SURPASSED $67.6 BILLION IN 2023
The Atacama Desert, once known for its pristine beauty, has become a massive landfill for discarded clothing. Brands we all recognize contribute to this waste—cheap, poorly-made garments, full of mixed synthetic fibers which cannot be recycled due to the poor quality and will remain in the desert for centuries.
The dry conditions and synthetic materials mean these garments will stay there for hundreds of years unless it is burned, releasing harmful by products into the environment.
FOR A PLANET BEYOND NEXT SEASON
Each of us has the power to say “no” to overconsumption by shopping responsibly for QUALITY pieces. We cannot keep consuming the way we do. Let’s make this Black Friday about more than just sales, it’s a chance to reshape the way we consume. Together, we can make a difference.
“PRIORITIZE QUALITY OVER QUANTITY…”
“My journey with Ecoalf to the Atacama Desert, one of the largest textile landfills in the world, was a profound experience. I hope this project sheds light on the pressing realities we face and underscores our collective responsibility to effect change: reject fast fashion, prioritize quality over quantity, and buy less”.
