No to Black Friday
|
From reality |
To action |
At Ecoalf, we say no to Black Friday. While the industry accelerates mass consumption, we invite you to move from awareness to action. These are some of our initiatives to raise awareness and drive change towards sustainable fashion:
-
2023 | Oceans: We focused on protecting the source through the Upcycling the Oceans project, transforming marine waste into high-quality yarn and demonstrating that the future of fashion is circular.
-
2024 | Atacama: Director Stella Banderas and our founder, Javier Goyeneche, travelled to the Atacama Desert, one of the world’s largest textile dumping grounds, to document the real impact of fast fashion and why a change of model is necessary.
-
2025 | Ghana: We travelled to Accra to show the devastating impact of the textile industry. Every week, 15 million garments arrive at Kantamanto market; 40% end up in landfills or polluting the ocean due to their low quality.
EVERY YEAR, MORE THAN 39,000* TONNES OF USED CLOTHING ARE ILLEGALLY DUMPED THEREDO YOU REALLY KNOW WHAT THESE OFFERS MEAN?
|
WE HAVE THE POWER TO SAY “NO TO BLACK FRIDAY” AND TO EXCESSIVE CONSUMPTION BY CHOOSING QUALITY GARMENTS THAT WILL LAST IN OUR WARDROBE FOR MANY SEASONS. |
GLOBAL SALES DURING BLACK FRIDAY EXCEEDED 67.6 BILLION DOLLARS IN 2023
The Atacama Desert, once known for its incredible beauty, has become a vast dumping ground for discarded clothing. Brands we all know contribute to this disaster: cheap, low-quality garments made from mixed synthetic fibres that cannot be recycled and will remain in the desert for centuries.
FOR A PLANET BEYOND THE NEXT SEASON
Everyone can say “no to Black Friday” and to excessive consumption by purchasing quality products responsibly. We cannot continue at the same pace of consumption, so it is time to make this Black Friday much more than just sales and promotions: it is an opportunity to change the way we consume. Together, we can make a difference.
“PRIORITISE QUALITY OVER QUANTITY...”
“My journey with Ecoalf to the Atacama Desert, one of the largest textile dumping grounds in the world, was a profound and impactful experience. I hope this project helps to show the reality we are facing and highlights the responsibility we all share to drive change: reject fast fashion, prioritise quality over quantity, and buy less.”
Stella Banderas, Director.
No to black fridayAs every year since we launched our project, we say “no to Black Friday” and offer a 0% discount across all our collections. |
Frequently asked questions about Black Friday at Ecoalf
How can I take part in responsible consumption?
The best way to join the movement is to reflect before buying: choose only what you truly need, prioritise quality over quantity, and support brands that are transparent about their environmental impact.
Why does Ecoalf say “No to Black Friday”?
We say no to Black Friday because aggressive discounting promotes a model of overproduction and impulsive consumption that the planet cannot sustain.
What does 0% discount mean?
It means we do not devalue the effort behind each garment. At Ecoalf, we invest in innovation to transform waste into high-quality fabrics. Maintaining a 0% discount allows us to continue investing in these sustainable materials and processes that save water and energy, ensuring a fair price that reflects a genuine commitment to the planet rather than encouraging excessive Black Friday consumption.
Filmmaker Stella Banderas and Ecoalf’s Founder and President Javier Goyeneche travelled to the Atacama Desert to witness fast fashion’s devastating impact on the environment and to raise awareness during Black Friday.

GLOBAL BLACK FRIDAY SALES SURPASSED $67.6 BILLION IN 2023
The Atacama Desert, once known for its pristine beauty, has become a massive landfill for discarded clothing. Brands we all recognize contribute to this waste—cheap, poorly-made garments, full of mixed synthetic fibers which cannot be recycled due to the poor quality and will remain in the desert for centuries.

The dry conditions and synthetic materials mean these garments will stay there for hundreds of years unless it is burned, releasing harmful by products into the environment.

FOR A PLANET BEYOND NEXT SEASON
Each of us has the power to say “no” to overconsumption by shopping responsibly for QUALITY pieces. We cannot keep consuming the way we do. Let’s make this Black Friday about more than just sales, it’s a chance to reshape the way we consume. Together, we can make a difference.
